Our position as a trailblazer in game development was assured from the moment we established the world’s first true online casino in 1994.

We have continued to innovate ever since, delivering thousands of games to online, mobile and land-based platforms. Those games include uniquely branded titles such as The Dark Knight Rises™, Playboy™ and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider™. But licensed content isn't all we offer. Our in-house production team has created truly iconic brands from scratch, including three of our most successful games in Avalon, Thunderstruck and Immortal Romance.

Offering support for 45+ languages, our award-winning Casino, Mobile, Poker, Bingo, Land-based, Sportsbook, Live Dealer and Network Gaming software continues to provide a unique gaming experience for players. And operators can benefit from our game-changing Business Solutions product and revolutionary Quickfire platform, which provides immediate access to the best content.

But don’t just take our word for it. Step into our world and take a look for yourself.

About Us

About Us

Who are we?

The short answer is we were there when it all began, creating the world’s first true online casino in 1994. We haven’t looked back since, but we have been constantly reviewing who we are, what we do and where we are going. In that respect, we are a company of change. And change is what drives our industry. Whenever we update or extend our offering, we do so with one eye on the future, which is why players often experience games that are ahead of their time.

The Long Answer

Based in the Isle of Man, we are among the world’s foremost gaming software developers. Our products include Casino, Mobile, Poker, Bingo, Land-based, Sportsbook, Live Dealer and Network Gaming. We have created more than 750 unique Casino games, including over 1,200 variants. Publishing a mix of licensed and proprietary content, we keep our catalogue fresh by releasing new titles every month.

As an innovator in our field, we have led the way in mobile development, producing games that are every bit as playable on tablets and smartphones as they are on desktop; in fact, our mobile range has grown to include over 225 dedicated games, 75 download games (Android) and 65 HTML5 games.

Did you know that our software generated the biggest mobile gaming win in history at £3.7 million? And the largest online bingo win at £5.88 million? We also set the record for an online casino win, paying out a staggering €6.37 million to the lucky winner. As if that weren’t enough, our online progressive jackpot network is the largest in the world.

But numbers don’t define us. We genuinely care about the game, our operators and their players. As a founding member of eCOGRA and IGC (Interactive Gaming Council), we set the standard in fair, responsible gaming. And for all our success, we always find time to give back to our local community, tackling important issues such as education, sport and substance abuse through a number of proactive initiatives. We also provide direct support through the Microgaming PlayItForward initiative.

Our journey is the path we have been following in pursuit of original gaming since we invented the online casino in 1994. Every year since we have set a new benchmark for others to follow.

Our industry wouldn’t exist without the trust and respect of players. And our company wouldn’t be where it is today had we not incorporated principles of fair play and responsible gaming into our ethos from the very beginning. Read on to find out what responsible gaming means to us.

In 2003 Microgaming was a founding member of eCOGRA, the e-Commerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance. Microgaming actively supports eCOGRA's work and as a software provider, Microgaming works with eCOGRA on new initiatives. Following a management buy-out in March 2011, eCOGRA has reinforced its independent status.

eCOGRA undertakes rigorous on-site assessments. Microgaming is very proud to have undergone that process and has been awarded eCOGRA's Certified Software Seal, certifying that Microgaming's products are developed to the highest industry standards.

In addition, Microgaming's commercial operators are eligible to apply for eCOGRA's Safe And Fair Seal, which underlines the operators' commitment to responsible online gaming.

Microgaming was also a co-founding member of the Interactive Gaming Council (IGC), which has established codes of conduct on every aspect of online gaming, including the veracity of advertising, the speed of payouts, data protection and auditing.

Microgaming is a member of the Remote Gambling Association (RGA), which was founded in 2005 to serve and protect the industry.

Microgaming is also a member of the Manx eGaming Association (mega).

Gambling Commission

We are licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission, which was established under the Gambling Act 2005 to regulate commercial gambling in Great Britain. Details of our licence can be obtained here.

Our Casino and Poker products are regulated by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), which is the regulatory body responsible for the governance of all gaming activities in Malta.

Our Technology

We are immensely proud of the fact that we operate at the pinnacle of our industry, having developed award-winning games and software in languages such as .NET, C++, C#, Java, Adobe Flash and HTML5 for platforms including Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. Whatever the requirement, we have the solution.

Client Product Platforms

Our Viper (download) and Flash (lite) Casino clients utilise the latest technologies to provide a state-of-the-art gaming experience for as wide a selection of players as possible.

Viper, Flash (AS1, AS2, AS3)

Options exist for everyone. Players using high-spec machines and high-speed broadband connections can play our latest games at the optimal settings, while those using lesser machines and slower connections can enjoy the same great games but at a modified technical output. The result is that players receive the richest possible gaming experience at all times, irrespective of hardware or location.

Built using the latest versions of Adobe Flash and Microsoft .NET, our Flash client system is robust, reliable and resilient. It delivers the fullest, most interactive player experience, and it is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems. Developing in AS3 has enabled us to produce genre-defining blockbusters such as Thunderstruck II, The Dark Knight Rises™ and Avalon II. These titles represent the best in online gaming, benefiting from cutting-edge graphics, immersive gameplay and captivating audio.

Viper Casino

Our download client integrates with the latest versions of Windows to provide a one-stop solution for players. Viper Casino does not require users to install a supporting framework or programming model such as Microsoft’s .NET Framework, so all players need do is download and install a single piece of software to start playing.

Developed in C++ using the latest libraries, and owing to the complexity and scalability of its design, our download client provides a comprehensive experience for players, who are able to track their gameplay and perform account maintenance. The software’s integrated marketing features, which are managed through the back office, present operators with a host of options to target individuals and groups of players.

Service Layer

The kernel responsible for our entire gaming logic is known as an RNG (Random Number Generator). Our RNG was set more than a decade ago, and over the years it has been checked and approved by the leading accredited testing agencies. Responsible for all gaming logic, the RNG provides a secure gaming environment that acts as a separate layer of security, ensuring that systems are further protected from attack and tampering. Capable of millions of daily transactions, our infrastructure is highly scalable and can handle a high volume of logins and large-scale promotions.

In Quickfire we have developed a platform that allows our gaming catalogue to integrate with any external player account system. The platform of choice for operators who want immediate access to the best content, Quickfire facilitates rapid development, seamless integration and hassle-free deployment.

C++, C#, .NET and Java are the technologies we use to create an open platform that allows gaming content developed by third-party providers to be easily integrated with our system. Such content is fully compatible with all of our business tools and back office products via Microgaming Integration Layers.

Generic Game Services

Our interface allows third parties to develop game logic and maths models that can be utilised through our systems.

Our Extended Third Party Interface allows independently developed game content and service maths models to be integrated with our account system.

Our Services

Our Services

Operators receive assistance from us in a number of ways. We help them to understand their players’ needs, improve their service levels and enhance their market responsiveness.

Responsible Gaming

Players deserve our protection, which we provide in the form of a comprehensive set of operator tools. Using those tools, operators can configure players’ accounts in the following ways:

  • Set player deposit limits
  • Set individual card limits
  • Lock accounts
  • Deny bonuses if requested
  • Specify as "Do not contact" when requested (the player will be placed in a managed group of players who do not receive any Casino marketing or bonuses on deposits)

We provide our clients with access to five important marketing tools: Player Group and Setting Infrastructure (PGSI); Bonus System; Loyalty Manager; Virtual Pitboss (VPB) and Free Games.

PGSI lets operators assign players to groups. Those groups can be managed in isolation, such that different marketing objectives are achievable within player communities. PGSI is particularly useful for providing offers, reminders and bonuses for new and occasional players.

Bonus System minimises players’ exposure to bonus abuse and facilitates extensive customisation of play-through requirements.

Loyalty Manager ensures that operators are able to manage all aspects of the loyalty system.

Player-activated actions are initiated and managed by VPB, which can be used in tandem with Bonus System, for example, to allocate bonuses automatically. The event-based communication tool enables operators to send messages to their players, allowing them to publish in-game promotions using eye-catching, media-rich content.

Free Games is an acquisition, retention and reactivation tool that can be used by operators to offer free games to Casino players. When used in conjunction with VPB, operators can choose which events trigger the offers. An offer may include a free game, a specific number or duration of spins, extra coins or additional lines. Wins from free games can be awarded as loyalty points, bonus money or cash.

Our software supports risk, chat, network and report management.

The fraud system we have developed allows operators to control how players are grouped. Our Player Communication Manager (PCM) tracks Casino players and provides them with valuable assistance, particularly with registration and banking. PCM can also be used to modify player behaviour to increase conversion rates and lifetime value.

In addition to a comprehensive network management schedule, operators can benefit from our superb Casper software, which is capable of generating more than 100 standard reports (on systems analysis, risk and fraud management, profitability, etc.) in a number of exportable formats.
